MADISON, WI — The Associated Students of Madison Student Council voted on the final Internal Budget tonight in the Student Activity Center. Specific changes to the budget took place in areas of operations grants, travel grants, event grants, and trainings/retreats for ASM personnel.

ASM Student Council voted to amend the budget by decreasing Finance Committee Operations grants to $120,000, cutting them by $20,000. Travel grants were increased by $40,000 to allow for student groups to attend conferences, which require more funding.  Event grants were also increased by $25,000.

The intern/volunteer orientation line was increased by $250.00 to allow for more interns to be taken into the program and benefit from the trainings offered to those who participate in the retreat.  Likewise the Chair Trainings were increased by $500.00 to allow for all of the committee chairs to attend the retreat.  Staff Trainings were increased by $1,000, and Student Council Orientation was increased by $500.

After collective cooperation and dedicated dialogue, ASM Student Council was able to compromise on the internal budget.  ASM Chair Andrew Bulovsky stated, “I am very happy with the amendments that have been made to the ASM Internal Budget. This budget set the 20th Session up for a productive and responsible year, and I’m happy with the compromise we were able to reach with it. Also, we’ve had an astounding timeline for completing the budget, unlike any session I’ve seen.”
