ASM DECIDES ON MCSC BUDGET, HEARS GUTS, MWL

December 6, 2012

MADISON, WI — The Associated Students of Madison’s Student Services Finance Committee funded the Multicultural Student Coalition (MCSC), and heard the Greater University Tutoring Service (GUTS) and Medieval Warrior League’s (MWL) budget presentations for the 2012-‐2013 fiscal year.

On Thursday, November 29, the budget decision for MCSC was tabled until the meeting today. This evening, MCSC was approved for $10,600. Their budget will allow for, at a minimum, the cost of organization space, a part-‐time student hourly employee, and basic supplies. SSFC representatives expressed concern regarding the group having significantly changed since their eligibility hearing.

GUTS requested increased budget allocation for advertising, technology, programming, and employment, with a total budget proposal of $174,968.20. Their increases included a new employment position as an online tutoring coordinator as well as funding for the online program, and web hosting fees.

MWL requested a ‘start up budget’ with a total of $136,662.29. Their budget would fund a variety of medieval practice equipment, including a variety of practice weapons and armor, as well as salaries for a Warrior Training Coordinator, a Resource Coordinator, and a celebrated Weapons Master for their Advanced Warrior Training group. SSFC Chair Ellie Bruecker stated: “I’m pleased with SSFC’s ability to maintain viewpoint neutrality and work with GSSFs to make fair decisions on budgets that will ensure responsible expenditures of student segregated fees.”

SSFC will meet again on Thursday, December 6 to decide the budgets for GUTS and MWL in the Hearing Room, 4th floor of the SAC.
